Hello,
With the usual Keystone Cop style box assembly line finished and the truck on it’s way North the crew shifts to the tasks for the day. This time of year it’s simply a matter of trying to keep up. Tuning in with Juan (my right hand man) last night we agreed we were almost doing just that, keeping up. Getting ahead is almost unthinkable with our mini crew, but we make plans and lists with a hint of fatal optimism around here. Anything beyond staying on top of the harvest and irrigation while trying to find time to battle the weeds is an accomplishment in itself, but in farming you always have to have one eye looking forward. Hitting the right windows for seeding and planting as we move towards fall is critical to ensuring a steady supply of crops. Even a few days late on transplanting into the field can impact a crops days to harvest, especially as the nights cool off and evrything starts to slow down a little. Plan for the best and prepare for the worst (Mel Brooks?) either way they are words to farm by.
We hope you are all enjoying the boxes so far this season.
Enjoy,
Dave, Lori and the crew
